Amount Awarded: $13,540,000
This grant is intended to fund transportation projects including resurfacing and pavement preservation projects, traffic signal system upgrades, bridge projects, transit projects and intelligent transportation systems.
How is San Francisco using this grant?
The San Francisco Department of Public Works is using this grant to implement six resurfacing projects at the following locations:
- Jones Street between Market Street and California Street
- Turk Street between Market Street and Van Ness Avenue
- Divisidero Street between Waller Street and Geary Boulevard
- 7th Avenue and Laguna Honda
- Geary Boulevard at 19th Avenue, 20th Avenue, 21st Avenue, 22nd Avenue and 23rd Avenue
- Bush Street between Van Ness Avenue and Presidio Avenue
In addition, this grant will fund the design and construction of new curb ramps at locations throughout the City, making them safer and more accessible. For more information on individual projects, please click here.
How will these projects benefit San Francisco?
These projects will repair and renovate transportation arteries that have deteriorated over the years, improving the flow of transportation throughout the city.
Project Update through June 2010:
- Cumulative FTE Jobs Created: 28.23
- Total Hours Worked: 58,718
- Project Status: Completed 50% or more
Work has begun on a majority of the projects identified above. The Jones Street and Geary Boulevard projects are complete, Turk Street is 99% complete, Divisidero is 27% complete, and 7th Avenue is 67% complete. Work has not yet begun on the remaining projects.
The San Francisco Department of Public Works must submit monthly reports to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). Please note that this project did not begin until August 2009, though reports were submitted beginning in May 2009.
