Project: Homelessness Prevention Programs
This grant provides funding for programs that assist homeless persons with basic shelter and essential supportive services. It can assist with the operational costs of shelter facilities and for the administration of the grant. Funds may also be used to provide short-term homeless prevention assistance to persons at imminent risk of losing their own housing due to eviction, foreclosure, or utility shutoffs. It is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
How is San Francisco using this grant?
San Francisco would use these funds for a variety of homelessness prevention activities. These activities include housing relocation and stabilization services such as housing search and placement assistance, case management, and outreach. Financial activities such as short-term rental assistance, motel or hotel vouchers, utility payments, and moving cost assistance would also be provided. How will this project benefit San Francisco?
The 2007 Homeless Count found that there are over 6,000 homeless individuals in San Francisco, many of which have been homeless for less than three month. These programs would assist those at the greatest risk of becoming homeless and help keep them in their homes.
