Project: San Francisco Office of Aids Renovation Project (SOAR)
This grant is intended to provide funding to institutions that propose to expand, remodel, renovate, or alter biomedical or behavioral research facilities. The major objective of this grant is to facilitate and enhance the conduct of Public Health Service-supported biomedical and behavioral research by supporting the costs of improving non-Federal basic research, clinical research, and animal facilities to meet the biomedical or behavioral research, research training, or research support needs of an institution. Awards are expected to create and/or maintain American jobs. This grant is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Why will San Francisco use this grant?
The San Francisco Department of Public Health would use this grant to renovate and expand the Department’s ability to provide HIV/AIDS research at the AIDS Office at 25 Van Ness. The AIDS Office will not only renovate new and existing research space to conduct state-of-the-art HIV research, but will also allow the City a broader opportunity to promote collaboration between research units and colleagues worldwide, and create meeting space for community members to guide research efforts. This project is expected to create 100 jobs.
Project Status:
San Francisco was awarded this grant in March 2010. Construction is expected to begin in the Spring of 2011.
