Clean Water State Revolving Fund

Amount Awarded: $1,548,645 Million
Recipient:
Port of San Francisco
Project: Pier 45 Drainage Improvements

This grant helps provide relief to communities by requiring a greater Federal share for local clean and drinking water projects and greater flexibility for States to reach communities that would otherwise not have the resources to repay a loan with interest. Loans are used to build or improve waste-water treatment plants; agricultural, rural, and urban runoff control; estuary improvement projects; wet weather flow control, including storm water and sewer overflows; alternative treatment technologies; and water reuse and conservation projects. This grant is administered by Environmental Protection Agency.

How is San Francisco using the grant?
The project will improve the Pier 45 Fish Processing Facility and create a new storm water collection system. This will reduce pollution in the San Francisco Bay by efficiently processing waste and directing polluted storm water into the sewer system.

How will this project benefit San Francisco?

Jobs Created: 20 jobs would be created over the term of construction. The proposed improvements would also support 100 existing jobs at the Pier 45 Fish Processing Facility.

Environmental Benefits: The project will reduce bacterial loadings in the vicinity of Aquatic Park, a nearby swimming beach, and will help ensure regulatory compliance for fish processing facilities at Pier 45.

Project Status:
Design and permitting for this project were completed in 2008. The project was put out to bid for construction in June 2009. Port staff anticipate awarding the construction contract in July 2009, and mobilizing for construction in September 2009. Construction will be complete in March 2010.
