This grant provides low interest loans, job training grants and technical assistance to local governments and nonprofit organizations to provide environmental job training projects that will promote economic recovery and facilitate job creation and/or preservation in the assessment, remediation, or preparation of brownfield sites.

Why did San Francisco apply for this grant?
The Office of Economic and Workforce Development proposes to build on the capacity and scope of its CityBuild Program’s asbestos abatement environmental training and placement efforts to develop and implement a new 432 hour, 12 week Academy Green Jobs Training Module that will prepare economically disadvantaged residents for positions as Environmental Technicians.

How would this project benefit San Francisco?

Job Placement: 75 economically disadvantaged residents will receive job specific training and 90% will be placed in skilled positions.
