Project: Expand Health Care Sector Academy Program

This grant program funds projects that provide training and placement services to help workers pursue careers within the health care and other high growth industries. The purpose of the high growth and emerging industries grants is to teach workers the necessary skills for, and help them pursue careers in, health care and other high growth and emerging industry sectors. This grant is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Why did San Francisco apply for this grant?
San Francisco will use this grant to expand the Health Care Sector Academy a public-private agency that trains disadvantaged residents of San Francisco for jobs in the health care sector. This grant will allow the Academy to help an additional 550 job seekers over the next three years, improve access to and completion of vocational skills training to low-skill workers, double the health care career subsectors for which the Academy provides training and placement services and prevent worker displacement.

How would this project benefit San Francisco?
This program will place 600 participants in unsubsidized employment situations over the next three years.
